Need a free, fast compiler or just want to learn Unix/Linux? Then, get a free unix Account and learn C, C++, mysql/SQL, Php, Perl, Java and the list goes on.

You really don't have to download 400 Megabytes of Visual C++ Express from Microsoft to be able to compile and run C/C++. You can also get Perl, Java, webspace, mysql, and even more for free! You even don't have to install a dual OS booting system. All you need to do is sign up for a free Unix/Linux account.

You can use SSH or Cygwin or Putty to connect to the Unix machines and you are ready to go.
Essentials:
  • SSH (I like this one due to ease of use Gui and ftp facilities).
  • Sign up with any one of these sites and then checkout web tutorials on Unix or whatever you want to use within the Unix system.

Just use g++ locally, try dev-c++ or try the borland compiler. Perl, java and everything else would still be just about a 100mb. Name one non-bloated, actually useful, non crashing microsoft product
